A New Way of Living

GCSAC Member Spotlight A NEW WAY OF LIVING, INC. is a newly formed non-profit organization developing a unique and supportive community, providing a drug-free meeting place for people recovering from substance abuse and their families.

Mission Statement The mission and philosophy of A New Way of Living (ANWOL) is based on a holistic mind, body and spirit approach to recovery combined with many interdisciplinary services. To provide a community meeting place in the form of a recovery association, to serve the recovering population from their addictive disease.

GOALS

Keeping recovery first - Placing recovery at the center of the effort, grounding peer-to-peer services in the strengths and innate flexibility that recovery represents.
Participatory process - Involving the targeted recovery community in project design and implementation, so that recovery community members identify their own strengths and needs, and design and deliver services that address them
Authenticity of peers helping peers - drawing on the power of example as well as the hope and motivation that one person in recovery can offer to another, providing opportunities to give back to the community, and embracing the notion that both people in a relationship based on mutuality can be helped and empowered in the process.
Leadership development - building leadership among members of the recovery community so that they are able to guide and direct the service program and deliver support services to their peers.
Cultural diversity and inclusion - developing a recovery community peer support services program that is inclusive of various groups and that honors differing routes to recovery.

OBJECTIVES

To create a physical, emotional, spiritual safe place.
To provide an environment where healthy socialization in a variety of forum will be created and supported.
To create an environment that supports and encourages personal relaxation and meditation regimen.
To create an adult healing community where all issues resulting from their addiction can be addressed in a consistent, collaborative, multi-disciplinary manner.

A New Way of Living (ANWOL) is a non-profit organization funded by grants and community donations. Our goal is to initiate a Recovery Community Services Program which will provide a drug-free meeting place for recovering substance abusers and their families. Our purpose is to address many of the negative beliefs and behaviors associated with their former disease of addiction. A place where people in recovery can go to socialize, partake in activities, relaxation and meditate.

These negative beliefs and behaviors can interrupt or prolong entering and progressing in a stable, continuing recovery/remission process. The Recovery Community Services Program will provide and support an environment where recovering people can go to:
(1) learn and practice healthy socialization skills
(2) learn how to live a sober/clean lifestyle
(3) engage in activities which encourage and support recovery, including health relaxation and meditation.

New Way of LivingHOW PEER TO PEER SERVICE NEEDS ARE TO BE SERVED BY ANWOL:
ANWOL will maintain a structured schedule where recovery-related workshops, trainings, meetings, services and social events are consistently delivered. ANWOL targets people in recovery, family members and friends to serve as ANWOL Volunteers, who in turn help those coming up behind them. ANWOL is a place where a person with long-term recovery can give back. ANWOL is also a place to find workshops, training and educational sessions to enhance one's own recovery. ANWOL exists as a recovery resource for the local community.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS RESOURCES:
A New Way of Living, Inc. will be seeded with membership contributions, funds from philanthropic foundations, or from federal, state, or local agencies concerned with alcohol and other drug-related problems. While these funds can be supplemented by a wide variety of fund-raising activities, it is a rare organization that will be able to fully sustain both its infrastructure and its core advocacy work in the larger community.
