GCAPThe HIV/AIDS epidemic is growing among traditionally underserved and hard-to-reach populations. The epidemic continues to spread among women, injection drug users and their heterosexual partners, gay and bisexual men of color, and youth. HIV/AIDS is now most heavily impacting minority communities and individuals living in poverty. Guilford Community AIDS Partnership is a unique collaborative entity created as a funding source for Guilford County programs that improve the lives of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

GCAP was established in 1991 as a joint effort with the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro and the National AIDS Fund to support HIV prevention efforts in Guilford County. Area hospitals, other community organizations, and individual contributors were also instrumental in establishing financial support for GCAP. Today, GCAP has more than 30 community partner agencies, 22 members on its Board of Directors, a full time executive director and is supported financially by the Moses Cone Wesley Long Community Health Foundation, the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, the National AIDS Fund, and the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Our mission is to confront HIV/AIDS by building bridges within our community and providing resources for services, education, and advocacy. Our ultimate goal is to:

  • Better coordinate and improve prevention and care network of services funded and available to people infected, affected, and at risk for HIV and AIDS.
  • Accountability of program effectiveness and focus on collaboration among service providers. Long-term infection rate will decrease due to the improved targeted prevention efforts.

We have made an impact in our community by diligently bringing community agencies together to fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic. GCAP has provided local organizations with over two million dollars for projects that affect different geographic, ethnic, and socioeconomic levels of our community. GCAP is accepting applications for the 2007 grant awards cycle. Applications were being accepted through October 6, 2006 for projects that address HIV/AIDS prevention or care needs in Guilford County. Individual grant request are limited to a maximum of $40,000.
