Coalition Member Spotlight
Christian Counseling and Wellness Group, Inc.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work. If one falls down, his friend can help him up!…Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12) NIV
Crime, violence, abuses, grief, stress, illness, and death are not respecters of people; however, wellness is “a right and privilege of everyone. It comes when we are total, whole people; when we have achieved a level of balance and integration between the mind, body, emotions, and spirit.”
Daily, we are forced to recognize that many of our lives are totally out of balance as statistics consistently reveal the devastating effects of drug and alcohol addictions. The lives of individuals and families across the nation are being ripped apart as we strive to make sense out of the chaos.
Desiring to be “a part of the solution rather than a part of the problem” and following years of study, research, planning, and prayer, The Christian Counseling and Wellness Group, Inc., a non-denominational and 501(c)(3)non-profit organization, was founded on October 30, 1996. Our founders’ philosophies are based upon devout Christian faith and the genuine desire to serve God while encouraging social healing and family restoration.
“Offering a haven for love, acceptance, and restoration” is the motto of our organization. Our methods combine the use of sound professional counseling, teaching, training skills and techniques, in addition to ethical and biblically-based concepts to assist clients in achieving a sense of wellness. Methods and approaches to treatment are determined by individual needs and preferences. Our Agency’s goal is never to promote any religious denomination or institution. Clients are encouraged to draw upon their own “faith system” to meet their spiritual needs and are not required to participate in any specific denominational activities or teachings.
Our “Total Wellness Program” consists of six (6) aspects. The physical, mental, financial, emotional, social, and faith systems afford clients the opportunity to participate in devising a plan of action for achieving “wholeness”.
As The Christian Counseling and Wellness Group, Inc. is preparing to celebrate its 10th Anniversary in October 2006, we are focusing upon, reviewing, revising, and strengthening the existing programs and services that are currently in place. We have achieved our goal of becoming a “full human service agency” that provides for the less fortunate in our community, which includes homeless and disabled women, men, and children.
Our services consist of a “One Stop Approach for Services”. If we can not help you, we are partners with other organizations that can. Programs and services are provided without regards to the client’s ability to pay for services. Once clients are assisted with obtaining financial resources; however, they are expected to contribute
toward their care.
Services include:
- Outpatient treatment and services
- Prince of Peace Haven Transitional Housing Program
- Nash Street Step Down House
- HOMES NETWORK Housing Program with Supportive Services
Outpatient Services was the initial program component that began in October 1996. Our mission was to provide a comprehensive outpatient service specifically for low- or no income individuals who needed counseling for stress, family conflict, anger, money management, and other day-to-day issues that interfere with the concept of “wellness“. As a result, hundreds of clients have been helped by our ministry.
Surprisingly, many of the clients seeking services suffered from chemical dependency. Crack cocaine and alcohol were the two major drugs of choice. While some clients were helped tremendously by outpatient treatment, we found that male clients were especially more prone to relapse due to unstable living situations. As a result, and as fate would have it, Guilford County allowed us to utilize the former Links building to establish a substance abuse transitional housing community for men. The Outpatient Department is now in the process of a major expansion.
Our team includes:
- Licensed Registered Nurses (Counseling and Mental Health Degrees)
- Former school teach and Real-estate Broker
- Licensed Professional Counselor
- PhD. Clinical Christian Counselor
- Seasoned professional and paraprofessional staff
The Christian Counseling and Wellness Group, Inc. is preparing to meet the challenges presented by the Mental Health Reform. While our mission will remain the same, the scope of services is expanding to better serve this
community.

This program was designed to allow the graduates of the Prince of Peace Haven program to continue their recovery for up to 24-months while maintaining the support of The Christian Counseling and Wellness Group, Inc. Graduates are housed in a single-family home that allows three graduates to have his own bedroom and share common areas. They may continue to attend group meetings, outside activities, and counseling sessions. In addition, transportation assistance may be continued until they are able to obtain other suitable transportation. Clients may transition from this program into the HOMES NETWORK program if they meet criteria.
HOMES NETWORK
January 1, 2005, The Christian Counseling and Wellness Group, Inc. established a community-based permanent and supportive housing service program for homeless individuals and families with special needs. Single individuals, or at least one member of the household, present with a disability as defined by HUD. Our goal is to afford tenants an opportunity to live independently in a safe and drug-free environment. Tenants have the opportunity to benefit from the availability of supportive programming designed to foster stability and self-sufficiency. Program funds are utilized to serve an intricate role in addressing an ongoing community and citywide concern for the lack of safe, affordable, and drug free permanent housing.
We continue to believe that everyone, regardless of his or her status in life, should be allowed an opportunity to partake of the abundant resources within our community so that each may achieve a sense of “wholeness”. The Christian Counseling & Wellness Group, Inc., therefore, provides over forty (40) scattered site housing units with comprehensive supportive services for a minimum of 75 individuals at any given time (Women, men and children).
